Annette Moon's Valentine's Day
VALENTINE WAS PROBABLY AN ASSHOLE, TOO
ALL THE LOVE THAT I'VE POURED
INTO THESE BLACK HOLES
IS MINE ONCE AGAIN
SNATCHED IT OUT OF
- THEIR MOUTHS -
& LOCKED IT BACK UP
- IN MY CHEST -
I'M GOING TO KEEP IT
TO MYSELF FOR A VERY
- LONG TIME -
{{ I AM NO LONGER INTERESTED }}

A/A: What inspired this series of photos?
AM: This is the first Valentine’s Day that I have been single by choice, so I wanted to spend it pouring love into myself & my art instead of giving that energy away. There’s an element of broken hearted-ness & reflection upon on bad relationships.
A/A: What was your process to create these images?
AM: I used a timer for these self portraits after setting up the props while listening to old 50’s love songs.
A/A: How long have you been shooting film?
AM: I have been shooting film off & on my entire life, but have really focused on it for the last 6 months as well as developing & scanning it myself.
A/A: Why did you choose film as your medium?
AM: Film is my medium because it requires me to be patient as well as allows me to put all of my emotion into each shot without being able to see the results until post development. There is no second guessing or self doubt involved. It’s just see, feel, shutter. It allows me to be truly honest with myself.
