Kate Hook's purple city of ghosts

Kate Hook's work is otherworldly. Her beautifully curated instagram page is full of photos manipulated to make the viewer feel wonder and enchantment.

“With my work I focus mostly on dreams. I create dreamscapes, an alternative to our everyday doom and glooms of reality. Life is mysterious so I hope to create work that reflects that."

ALTER/ANALOG:  Can you tell us a bit about the film you used.

KH: I used Lomography’s LomoChrome Purple for these photos. It’s a such a cool and interesting film to use as it complete transforms the mood and scenery within the image.

ALTER/ANALOG: Why did you pair this film with this subject?

KH: I didn’t purposely go out and shoot this set- I use to walk pass this graveyard a lot and one day I went in to walk around and I had my loaded camera on me. I have a strange and difficult relationship with death. 

ALTER/ANALOG:  What inspires you?

KH: I’m inspired by heartache, golden hours, nature, and magic.

ALTER/ANALOG:  How long have you been shooting film?

KH: A very long time. I went full film for my work in 2016 and I’m so glad I did. For me artistically it’s far more fulfilling and tangible.
